CD’s (EN)

In the past years, these four CD’s were released by record label Ezra Classics.

La forêt perdue is dedicated to Frederic Voorn’s own piano music, written between 2005 and 2016. The Art of the Nocturne consists of pieces by Field and Chopin, and also by six Russian and six French composers. On the Haydn CD, five early sonatas can be heard, written between 1765 and 1776. Music Box is a small anthology of three centuries of piano music, captured in twenty-two miniatures.

The CD’s can be purchaced for € 18,– each (international postage included). If you send this amount with your name and address to IBAN nr. NL06ASNB0707069556 (swift code = Bic INGBNL2A), attention to F.T.C.G. Voorn, we will mail you the CD as soon as possible.

reviews

…”Voorn’s fascinating Piano Sonata, with its majestic, late romantic and sometimes fierce singularity relates well to Prokofiev in his most amiable mood. Lyricism, nostalgia and playfullness determine the alternately slow and fast ‘tone impressions’ of La forêt perdue, while Voorn in his Pièces simples et naturelles connects with French composers like Satie, and sometimes even adds a whiff of Spain.”…  (Klassieke Zaken)

…”This music is timeless and sounds immediately familiar.”…  (Platomania)

“…Voorn’s early Pièces simples et naturelles (2005) and his suite La forêt perdue (2015) are lyric tone paintings, with a whiff of nostalgia, French joie de vivre and much attention to tone colour. The recently completed Piano Sonata (2016) reminds us of late Prokofiev, but without his preference for sharp dissonances. Voorn uses his salt and pepper sparingly and the Sonata gets it’s rich spiciness from a mix of restrained sarcasm and the masterly use of polyfony and the octatonic scale.”…  (Muze)

…”In The Art of the Nocturne, no two pieces are alike and each carry a clear signature of the composer. Richly played and with a preference for dynamic contrasts, these nocturnes sound like character pieces, stylized dances, lullabies or songs without words. With this album, Frederic Voorn challenges the widespread notion that the nocturne is only fit for the sweet-, the delicate- and the weak-hearted.”…(PianoBulletin)

…”In five well-chosen sonatas, Frederic Voorn varies with touch, articulation, dynamics, use of pedal and embellishments. Both pedals are used for colour, repeats are enriched by stylish extra variations and embellishments, rests are full of expectations and here and there tempos are played deliberately in a flexable way.”…(Piano Wereld Magazine)

…”CD Music Box, warmly recommended! An original CD with many musical gems, sometimes known, but often unknown repertoire from three hundred years of piano music.”…(Piano-instituut)

…”Frederic Voorn is a uniquely versatile musician: choir director, author, radio program maker, pianist and composer. On his CD Music Box he gives a chronological anthology of three centuries of piano literature. He plays short works, beginning with Bach and by way of Chopin and Satie, ending with Prokofiev and Milhaud. Also one of Voorn’s own composition is to be heard: Sarabande. Because this CD covers such a broad spectrum, it is especially well suited for those who are not yet so well acquainted with the piano idiom of different style periods.”…(Akkoord Magazine)
